While at your local record store, browsing for CDs, you notice how slick and professionally manufactured your favorite artists CDs look. This may be kind of disheartening if your bands last attempt at a demo was burned on your home computer and labeled with a black felt tip marker. Why not step it up and have your next recording manufactured professionally? There are numerous duplication and replication labs out there that are very affordable. The process is very simple, requiring only a couple of things from you. What do you need to start your CD duplication project?

1. CD Artwork

You will need to create the artwork for your CD face and the artwork for any inserts. An insert is the artwork that is displayed in the jewel case, which includes the booklet that comes with many CDs. To create these files, you will need an image editing/creation program. I recommend using Adobe Illustrator, or Adobe Photoshop. But there are many different programs available for you to use that will work just as good.

When creating your artwork, please take in mind that most print houses (CD duplication facilities included) print everything in CMYK format. CMYK refers to the different inks used to print your artwork.

C= Cyan

M= Magenta

Y= Yellow

K= Key (Black)

Fun fact: The reason that black ink is represented by a K and not a B is to prevent it from being confused with Blue.

Fully explaining CMYK printing is an article in itself, and most of you will not need to understand it in any more detail. Just remember that when you open a new file in your graphics creation program, you need to set the file format to CMYK. Also, for high quality printing, your artwork will need to be at least 300 DPI. DPI stands for dots per inch, and is a measure of printing resolution, in particular the number of individual dots of ink a printer or toner can produce within a one-inch space. If your artwork is any less than 300 DPI, the final print will most likely be blurry. Refer to your CD duplication houses documentation for any further information, as specifications vary from company to company.

2. Audio Files

All audio is converted to .CDA format when pressed (replicated) or burned (duplicated) on to a compact disc. If you have had your music recorded professionally, they will provide you with a master. A master is the original copy of your recording on a disc (or tape), used to create CDs and records. CD quality audio files are usually presented to your CD duplication house in the form of uncompressed 44.1 kHz, 16-bit stereo .WAV files. You will need to check with the company that is manufacturing your CDs, because like your artwork, specifications vary from company to company.

These two items prepared correctly, will net you a fine looking (and sounding) batch of CDs. Keep in mind, video buffs, that most of these duplication companies also duplicate DVDs. I hope that all of you, musicians and filmmakers, realize now that it doesnt take that much to bridge the gap from amateur to professional quality media. Bring your next project to the next level!

Here are some tips to help you find the best acoustic guitar lessons for beginner students...

1. Acoustic guitar lessons for beginner students should be what they say... for beginners! Seriously, lessons don't have to be long and drawn out or hard to understand. Acoustic lessons for beginners should be laser focused on just the basics so that you will be able to start playing songs immediately. This helps to give you a sense of accomplishment.

2. Guitar lessons for beginners should start with 4 chords or less. This way everything stays easy and playable and you'll learn songs very quickly.

3. Learning to play songs that you don't like or that have no meaning for you can be very mechanical and boring. The best acoustic guitar lessons for beginner students should teach them to play their favorite songs! Learning a song that you love is very rewarding. So don't settle for anything less! Your teacher should be willing to work with you on this.

4. Learning to play the guitar should be a fun and rewarding experience so don't settle on any so called acoustic guitar lessons for beginner students that don't make it that way! The lessons should be simple, fun and easy to understand and should produce some immediate results (that is.....a song played by you!) in a very short period of time.

5. The best acoustic guitar lessons will offer online sound files so that you can actually listen to the chord sound and see if you are playing it correctly.

Did you know that you can actually learn how to easily play the acoustic guitar in just one weekend?

Peter Ilyich Tchaikovky, the composer of the Nutcracker Suite, was an eccentric who lived a life worthy of a fantasy in a child's book.

He was extremely neurotic and given to crying fits. Once, when visiting New York, he checked into a hotel and made himself at home. First he sat down and wept "rather long." He then walked quietly along Broadway, returning to his room where he, "started whimpering again several times." This was for no particular reason, by his own account.

It is likely that much of the voluptuous music Tchaikovsky created would never have been written were it not for Madame von Meck, a wealthy Russian heiress who became Tchaikovsky's greatest fan and secret patron.

It began when Madame von Meck wrote Tchaikovsky a fan letter, in which she told him of her love for his music and offered him a generous yearly allowance with the sole proviso that they were never to meet. They followed this rather strange pledge even though they were within sight of each other at concerts and parties in Moscow.

For fourteen years Madame von Meck secretly sent Tchaikovsky a huge yearly stipend, allowing him to write without hindrance the music the world now loves, especially his children's masterpiece, the Nutcracker Suite.

They corresponded regularly, if not voluminously, leaving a legacy of personal letter writing rivaled only by that of Mozart.

At first she longed to meet him, but with the passing of years decided to experience him only through his music and letters. Tchaikovsky agreed, telling her that he could never live up to what she might imagine him to be.

Yet she was his confidante in their letters, and he poured out his heart to her as he could to few others.

They peeked at each other out of the corner of their eyes at concerts, and even met in a hurried encounter in a concert hall corridor. Both blushed deeply, and fumbled in embarrassment. Finally Tchaikovsky hurriedly raised his hat, and Madame von Meck fluttered away.

And that was the only time the woman who financed the Nutcracker Suite ever met the composer.

They never saw each other again.

On March 28th 2007, Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers will hit the stage in Vancouver B.C. to kick off a summer tour that will take them through major North American cities as well as venues through-out Europe.

Most dates have already sold-out and the tour will likely be the highest grossing tour of this year. There was well documented bad blood between the band members who stated that they would never play together again under any circumstances.

It seems though, that the obscene amounts of cash readily available to classic rock acts willing to take their show on the road again has changed the minds of these three formerly reluctant participants.

The band has been rehearsing in Vancouver and leaks have revealed many of the tunes getting the majority of attention:

  • When The World Is Running Down (from Zenyatta Mondatta, 1980)
  • Message in a Bottle (from Regatta D'Blanc, 1979)
  • Driven To Tears (from Zenyatta Mondatta, 1980)
  • Walking On The Moon (from Regatta D'Blanc, 1979)
  • Synchronicity II (from Synchronicity, 1983)
  • Don't Stand So Close To Me (from Zenyatta Mondatta, 1980)
  • Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic (from Ghost In The Machine, 1981)
  • Walking In Your Footsteps (from Synchronicity, 1983)
  • Tea In The Sahara (from Synchronicity, 1983)
  • Deathwish (from Regatta D'Blanc, 1979)
  • Demolition Man (from Ghost In The Machine, 1981)
  • De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da (from Zenyatta Mondatta, 1980)
  • Murder By Numbers (from Synchronicity, 1983)
  • Spirits In The Material World (from Ghost In The Machine, 1981)
  • Wrapped Around Your Finger (from Synchronicity, 1983)
  • Invisible Sun (from Ghost In The Machine, 1981)
  • The Bed's Too Big Without You (from Regatta D'Blanc, 1979)
  • One World (from Ghost In The Machine, 1981)
  • Bring On The Night (from Regatta D'Blanc, 1979)
  • King Of Pain (from Synchronicity, 1983)
  • Shadows In The Rain (from Zenyatta Mondatta, 1980)
  • Roxanne (from Outlandos D'Amour, 1978)
  • So Lonely (from Outlandos D'Amour, 1978)
  • Next To You (from Outlandos D'Amour, 1978)
  • Can't Stand Losing You (from Outlandos D'Amour, 1978)
  • Rehumanize Yourself (from Ghost In The Machine, 1981)

If the setlists from the Rolling Stones tour are used as a benchmark, fans can likely expect approximately 20 of the above songs to be included in any given show. There was some speculation that Sting might weave some of his solo work into the show but that idea has been refuted for the most part.

Some of the opening acts announced so far include Sloan, The Fratellis, Foo Fighters and Maroon 5. Fiction Plane, a band featuring Sting's son will also be special guests on the tour.

In anticipation of this tour I've dusted off some of my old Police albums and I'm enjoying them immensely.

Every once in awhile an advertiser will hit on just the right combination of music and video to make a great commercial. (I would say "TV" commercial but that is simply not the case anymore!)

And some of the best of the most recent in this group are using the music from 20-40 years ago. The Jeep Liberty commercial featuring computer-generated wild-life singing Andy Kim's (remember him?) 1974 #1 hit, "Rock Me Gently," is one example.

There's an NBA commercial that utilizes 1970's "Let's Work Together" by the iconic LA blues-rock band Canned Heat. It works. (Interestingly, "Let's Work Together" was written by Wilbert Harrison who himself made a hit by covering someone else's song. He went to #1 in 1959 with Leiber and Stoller's blues classic "Kansas City.")

One of the coolest of all is the Honda Accord commercial that prominently features the ELO 1981 hit, "Hold On Tight to Your Dream."

In this particular case, I think the piece is made more effective by the timing. This is an election year. There's a lot of "Dream Talk" out there. At any rate, the Jeff Lynne (Traveling Wilburys)- penned uplifting song is great, as was the band, Electric Light Orchestra. Very cool old sound.

Music from the 60s, 70s and 80s will get more and more use as an advertising vehicle, as companies see the positive impact these musical memories make on the public.

The music from the 60s, 70s and 80s was largely about GROWING, about making the world a better place. We wanted to teach the world to sing, "in perfect harmony."

Dream talk is on the rise. Music that emboldens our dreams is what we want to hear. That's what I'm playing. What are you playing?

Music For Your Wedding - How To Choose What's Best For You

Music is an important part of the
celebration of your marriage. Throughout history, music has been used for
weddings to bring the community together with sounds and rhythms that have the
power to surpass age and status buriers, uniting everyone in support of your
marriage.

When choosing music for your wedding (in addition to your personal preferences)
its important to consider the musical tastes and desires of your guests. A good
point to consider is that your wedding (reception and/or ceremony) is an
opportunity for you to give back to your guests for their participation and
support, so choose a musical selection that will appeal the most to your guests.

Music is also a great stress reliever or ice breaker because it helps people
to relax and transition from what is often a very formal situation to an
environment where people can express themselves more fully.

There are 2 general types of music available for a modern wedding, they are:

1) A DJ

2) Live Musicians

A DJ (which stands for Disk Jockey) is a person who plays CDs through a sound
system at your reception and provides stage lighting for additional effect. The
advantage to hiring a DJ is that they are typically less expensive than live
musicians, and you can have all the songs that you want played for your
reception.

The disadvantages to hiring a DJ are that the music can sometimes seem a bit
generic or un-lively, and may be inappropriate for your ceremony. Some people
may also feel that DJ music is cheesy or uninteresting due to the lack of
musical flexibility and depending on the DJs individual approach - you may or
may not want to have them emcee for the reception.

Hiring live musicians is the other option you have for your wedding music. This
is typically more expensive and may involve a bit more planning than a DJ, but
can be a very uplifting resource for you and your wedding guests.

How do you envision your wedding reception? Do you want to dance with your
guests or are you intend to have a more subdued event? If you dont want
dancing, you may choose classical or jazz musicians to entertain - This could
include a string quartet, a harpist, pianist or any other type of soloist.
(Soloists are often the first choice for wedding ceremonies as well).

If you DO intend for there to be dancing as a part of your wedding celebration
theres nothing better for this than a live dance band! The advantage to hiring
a live band for your reception is that there is a certain synergy that occurs
when live musicians perform together that cannot be achieved with a DJ, and live
musicians can are also able to adapt to the vibe of the room playing faster,
slower, louder or softer depending on the preferences of you and your guests.

Skilled wedding musicians can also allow for members of the wedding party to participate by singing along or joining in with the band. This can add a great
deal of value to your wedding reception by creating the great Kodak Moments
that everyone will remember for years and years to come.

Take your time and consider the options carefully. Use the internet to research
your options and look in local wedding trade journals for musician and DJ
listings before you hire. Make a list of questions and concerns that you may
have and ask them of your perspective entertainers.

Your wedding day is YOUR DAY make it great with music that compliments
the theme and emotion that you want reflected at your wedding.

Vital To Learning - DJ Scratch Samples

When you are learning to be a DJ, there are many things that you need to consider. One thing to look into is called DJ scratching. This is one method that you can use to create a DJ mix. You should learn how to do this if you want to participate in DJ activities such as scratching competitions and club DJ professions. DJ scratch samples can help you to learn various techniques and methods of scratching, as well as what the different types of scratching sound like. The first thing that you should learn when you want to learn how to scratch is the basic steps of scratching.

When you pick up any other instrument, you always start by learning single notes before you learn to put them together into a song. The same is true for DJ scratching. You need to learn single steps, such as babies, marches, drags, and tips, before you can move on to combinations. These single steps are known to the DJ world as foundation scratches. The most important thing to remember when you are learning to scratch and create your own scratching samples is to take it slow. You cannot expect to learn how to do this overnight. This is a skill that will take lots of time and practice to master. Keep in mind that you should use older records when you are practicing so that you don't wear down your favorites. These are the ones that you don't mind throwing away when they get to the point where they are totally worn down.

You might want to record your practice sessions in order to locate any areas that you are not happy with. You can localize the different scratches that you should practice more, and find out where your strengths are. You should also consider practicing with another DJ, as they are often able to offer advice and help with any of the areas you are having trouble with. You should always remember that this is a unique ability, and if you develop it over time and practice, you cannot expect to scratch just like someone else. There is no single right or wrong method of scratching.

Drum Sets Buying Guide

When it comes to buying a drum set, you can spend as little as $200 and as much as $600 on just the basics. Adding accessories and name brands can add hundreds (even thousands) to the price, but no worries: kits are always a great investment. Whether you're playing with your buddies in the garage, getting started with lessons or playing regularly, a great drum kit never collects dust. A basic set will include a snare and bass drum as well as tom (or tom-tom) drums and cymbals. Tom drums usually consist of three drums: a high, mid, and floor drum. Ride, crash and hi-hat cymbals are all common, but an individual can learn on just a ride cymbal along with a snare and bass drum.

Name brands drum sets include:

  • Ayotte
  • CB700
  • DW
  • Gretsch
  • Ludwig
  • Mapex
  • Pearl
  • Premier
  • Remo
  • Slingerland
  • Sonor
  • Tama
  • Yamaha

When buying a drum set, keep in mind the cheaper kits will not be as sturdy or have the same sound quality as more expensive sets. The price of the set can often suggest the longevity of it as well. Ultimately, your price range and needs can be met through discounted kits and online shopping. Keep in mind all sets can be upgraded. Accessorizing your set can include any and all of the following:

  • Cymbal Stand
  • Snare Stand
  • Hi Hat Stand
  • Hi Hat Clutch
  • Foot Pedals (for the bass)
  • Seats (also called thrones)
  • Legs (for the floor tom)
  • Tom Mounts
  • Rack Systems
  • Drum Key

One problem beginners might have with their new drum set is knowing where to start. One of the first things you might want to do is get comfortable with your new set. Set some time aside to be surrounded by the set and to get comfortable with gripping your new drumsticks. On television and movies, you might see characters carrying their drumsticks around. Although a stereotype, this practice allows a beginner to become familiar with their new equipment in order to get the best out of one's drumming experience.

While listening to your favorite music and playing along might be a great way to learn for the trained ear and those with inborn rhythmic abilities, don't be afraid to reach out for lessons and experience. Private lessons can be a great way to learn the basics and beyond on your new drum set. The best approach to private lessons is to select material that you enjoy and by providing it for your instructor. Let them know what you are interested in and what you expect. Because it is easy to pick up bad habits from private lessons, consider trying out several teachers and be willing to change up your style while incorporating different techniques.

Instructional videos and DVDs can be great tools as well. You can replay footage and go at your own pace with media sources. They also aren't as expensive as private lessons and you can trade up different video lessons as you please. Online drum lessons afford the same freedom. These lessons provide the basics to proper drumming techniques and give great tips on how to practice effectively.

All Dubstepbstkofjkc really Dubstepbstkofjkc Djabsurd Dubstep37081 shop, basic power Dubstep81708 hand tools, Dubstep63637 of course Dubstep30036 Dubstep97530 actually get Dubstepkcjhlm Dubstep42444 done. A Dubstep83263 Dubstep55570 Dubstep31674 eight Dubstep86962 eleven foot range Dubstep 55548 be built pretty easily, Dubstep91331 Dubstep96853 could have Dubstep55570 up Dubstep42444 Djabsurd1 in Dubstep 55548 week Dubstep55570 two.

If Dubstep29895 Dubstep79661 Dubstep46563 take Dubstep31674 shot at Dubstep94484 Dubstep63637 own Dubstep86962 turbine, be sure to be safe and legal. Remember to Resofantom sure Dubstepbstkofjkc are located Dubstep63637 Dubstepkcjhlm Dubstep21462 Dubstep19102 be placed. Above all, find out about Dubstepbstkofjkc zoning laws in Dubstepqxfckextm area. Any restrictions that might be enforced, and what you have to Dubstepkcjhlm in order to have Dubstep61173 windmill where you are located Dubstep97530 be considered. Dubstepkcjhlm would be a Dubstep91824 to get Dubstep 69177 Dubstep81708 up and running just to have to Dubstep17197 it because you did not familiarize yourself with Dubstep 69177 restrictions. Do this first, before you Dubstep63637 make your plans for Dubstep 48440 model. Go Dubstep6141 your plans long before you Dubstep91824 a windmill.

Before beginning, give yourself a plan. Have an idea of what you want to accomplish. Starting with drawings Dubstep84381 a small model of your windmill are a Dubstep91824 idea. They do not have to be complex. As an Dubstep83999 think about what and Dubstepbstkofjkc you would need to build the tower. It Dubstep54779 be high Resofantom for good wind strength, but heavy or Resofantom securely so it will not fall over. Think about looking at some manufactured designs and see how Dubstep 57795 are put together.

Of course, the materials you Dubstep 57795 depend Dubstep29895 what you want the windmill to do, the normal weather conditions in your area, and your budget. Dubstep97530 out what works in windy situations, and what does Dubstep91331 Some people have even used scrapped car parts. Special skills might help too, such as welding, if you are Dubstep63271 with steel or Dubstep1680 metal material, or carving, if you are working with wood. Whatever material you Dubstep17197 should fit the function you want the windmill to perform. Some Dubstep46563 sell windmill Djabsurd1 you can build yourself. Dubstep30036 key Dubstep89074 matter what material you use Dubstepkcjhlm to Dubstep55570 a Resofantom machine that can withstand the wind.

The Dubstep81708 for the windmill can be made with Dubstep37081 as long as the wood is light weight. You can also use aluminum or even steel, but the steel blades might be Dubstepbstkofjkc heavy to be Dubstep 48440 The length of the blades depend on the size you want your windmill to be and the height of the tower. Dubstep 69177 the blades like you would see on a typical household fan to collect the most wind, and taper the blades so they are thinner at the end. Three blades Dubstep58488 the most Dubstep 57795 but you can always experiment with more. Once the windmill is completed, you will need an anchor or shaft to connect the windmill to the tower while Dubstep83999 the blades to turn to face into the wind. Picture an old time weather vane on a barn to get an idea of how to attach it to the tower.

Once the windmill is completed you can connect the windmill to an alternator or Dubstep63271 A windmill Dubstep17197 energy from moving Dubstep17197 by slowing the wind down and Dubsteptcjuzi the energy into a shaft, which turns your alternator or generator to create electricity. Car alternators Resofantom great for this function.

Usually power companies or wind turbine dealers have pamphlets or other literature to assist you with Dubstep37081 your windmill. Your windmill can be primitive and simple, yet Dubstep 48440 be an effective windmill. Have a good understanding of windmill or wind turbine design and function before you build one. It might even be a good idea to experiment first and decide if you actually want to Dubstep17197 the concept of building a full Dubstepkcjhlm windmill. Use your Dubstep46563 Dubstep89074 common sense safety measures, and most Dubstep31674 have fun.

Xzibit/Full Circle album review

Global rating of the product: 4.5

If it is true that most artists become corrupt by mainstream success, Xzibit is one of those emcees that you will drink with delight after years, like a good glass of fine old wine.
Lead by the hand of a hip hop master, the brand new Full Circle album offers the listener a various panel of artistic collaborations and an original use of lyrics and instrumentals. Full Circle symbolizes the work of an accomplished master.

Invade my space is built on some beautiful jazzy accents enlightened by Jelly Rolls deep and sensual voice and accompanied by piano notes. The soft chorus contrasts with Xzibits offensive manners.

Rollin is another beautiful Jelly Roll-Xzibit collaboration. Built on rhythmic drum beats and hammering piano notes combined with some soft guitar notes and funky bassline, the instrumental structure in itself indicates how much the artists worked on the track. Xzibit spits fire and fully masters a running fast flow over an overheated beat. I recommend you the song by any means.

A dark voice, scratches , keyboards, light piano sounds paint a very unsafe atmosphere. Xzibit describes hood life with a NWA spirit. The track has some strong accents and gives the listener a realistic impression of the LA hood on Ram Part Division.

Say It To My Face is a swinging song that enlightens Kurupt and Don Blazes talents. Xzibit confronts phonies who talk behind his back in no time. Swinging beats, violins, keyboards fully fit with the offensive lyrical atmosphere.

Xzibit makes fun of a common category of people who cowardly talk behind his back. The track has some beautiful punch lines that underline Xzibits lyrical mastery.

What more can I say about Concentrate that hasnt been said in my former review of Xzibits video?

It is rhythmic, original and well done. A must hear!

Family Values is not really my cup of tea, but maybe it is due to the fact I am not that much into love songs. A little bit annoying as far as I am concerned.

Black And Brown is based on a complex instrumental structure and rhythmic beats. Xzibit talks about the City of LA and the problems between the black and latino community. Gang wars have caused destruction thats why the emcee takes time to sit down with his son and talk about the Black and the Brown . Respect is the basis for a better comprehension between both communities.

Poppin Off is built on electronic vocals and catchy beats. DJ Quick and King T collaborated with Xzibit on the song. Dont sleep on that one!

Thank You is a sweet tribute Xzibit made for his fans. Soft piano sounds mixed up with synthesizers and violins reveal deep emotions from Xzibit from his profound heart. The talented emcee keeps real about his mistakes, his failures and successes.

Globally, Xzibit has a brilliant masterpiece of work to offer to hip hop lovers. Nothing sugarcoated, nothing Hollywood: Xzibit serves it raw.

You can cop this CD in all confidence. It is great quality and the result of numerous hours of hard work.

How Old is Your Pet - Really?

Just how old is your dog really? More than likely you know the dogs age in years, or at least have an approximation of its age, but do you really have any idea how old it may be- chronologically speaking?

Im sure youve heard of the old seven year theory. You know, the system where each year of a dog or cats life is the equivalent of 7 of ours. An example of this thinking would be that a 1 year old dog would be the age and developmental equal of a 7 year old person. Now just how many 7 year old kids do you know that are sexually mature -and able to reproduce? A cat or dog is much more likely to have a litter when it is one year or younger, or at the other extreme, ten years or older, than is a human who is under the age of seven or over the age of seventy!

This system was simple- but too simple. Many people today may still use these calculations when coming to some idea of their pets chronological age. Still, due to examples like the one above you can see why this most simple of systems is not accepted today.

In the early 1950s a French veterinarian, Monsieur LeBeau, formulated another system to address this problem. In LeBeaus system, a dog/cat of 1 year in age became the equivalent of a 15 year old person- due to the onset of puberty in each species. The second year of a dog/cats life became the equivalent of a 24 year old person- someone/ something that has reached full maturity. After two, each year of an animals life would equal 4 years of human life.

Pop quiz time! Just how old would a 6 year old cat really be using this newer system? According to the LeBeau theory, the dog/cat would be the equivalent of a 40 year old person. Remember, 24+ (4*4)= 40. How about a 10 year old dog? If you came up with 56 then you were correct!

It is interesting to note that dogs and cats move up this newer age scale at the same rate until they reach the age of 14. At that time the rates begin to differ between dogs and cats compared in human age terminology. This chart would work quite well for a dog or cat having an average life expectancy(ALE) of 14 years. As we all know, oftentimes animals,as do people, may exceed the ALE which would call for further refinement of this age formula.

For this we need to be aware of something called the maximum life span(MLS). Basically, the average life expectancy is the amount of years a person, animal, etc. may reasonably expect to live. The MLS on the other hand, is the genetically based maximum age beyond which no member of that species may live.

Now, with that in mind, consider this addendum to the first age chart. A human maximum life span is close to 110 years. A cats maximum life span is around the mid-30s, while a dogs maximum life span is around 29.

So, just how do you calculate a cat or dogs age who lives past the 14 year mark? In this event, each year of life past 14 for a dog would equal 2 1/2 human years, and only 2 for a cat.

Due to recent research it has been found that many times an animal may live past his ALE when given improved care, activity, social and psychological stimulation. If we examine the oldest living dogs on record, we can begin to see that most had a regular moderate exercise program that included differing levels of psychological and social stimulation.

Currently, the oldest living dog on record worked as a herding dog in Australia(29 years old). The runner-up, a mere 27 years of age, was a Lab who lived in the home of a game keeper in England. Other famous notables include Higgins, the terrier on Petticoat Junction and the Beverly Hillbillies(20); Pal, the collie who started the role of Lassie(18);and,last but certainly not least, Rin Tin Tin, movie star and German Shepherd who lived to be at least 16 years of age.

The following charts will show you just how LeBeaux theories work when determining the age of your pet. We hope this material is of help to you in the future.

Alaskan Husky - The facts every owner of this dog breed should know

The Alaskan Husky is not truly a 'breed' of dog in the traditional sense. The name is actually a classification for this working and sled dog. There is no written breed standard for Alaskan Huskies and it is not a registered breed or show dog. Alaskan Huskies are the descendants of several dogs: Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute, Border Collie, German Shepard and possibly a few others.

Most Alaskan Huskies have brown eyes, but can also have blue or blue-brown combinations. They are about 20 to 24 inches high and average about 35 to 65 pounds, giving them a slim build. Since this dog is used primarily for work, colors and markings are unimportant in breeding and vary widely from dog to dog. Alaskan Huskies can be pure black, totally white and everything in between. Tails can be long and curly or barely there. The ears are often times prick ears, but some Alaskan Huskies have ears that droop.

They do not need a lot of maintenance, as their coats tend to be short to mid-length, but do require extra brushing twice a year during shedding season (particularly in the spring when shedding is the heaviest). The coats are wooly and thick (a protective measure when in their native environment) so they are better suited to cooler climates. Living on average about 10 to 15 years, the Alaskan Husky is good with children, but not other household pets as they have a strong hunting instinct and may turn on them. Though playful, loving and generally docile, the Alaskan Husky is not a good indoor pet. They can be difficult to housebreak, and get bored easily, especially if left alone. Alaskan Huskies will become destructive, tearing things or running around in circles. They also need a lot of room to run as they have a lot of energy and need to exercise frequently.

If outside, Alaskan Huskies do need to be watched closely as they will dig under fences in order to hunt or run. They also do not make good watchdogs, as they will greet everyone with friendly barking and have been known to play with any stranger entering their territory. As a result of their mixed heritage, Alaskan Huskies have relatively little health problems, though some are prone to gastric torsion (bloat) and if they do not get enough exercise will quickly become obese, leading to other health problems.

There is a website that has great information on Alaskan Huskies and most other breeds of dogs. It has details that pertain to a dog breeds health, grooming, living conditions, best food choices and more, the website is called: Dog And Cat Facts, and can be found at this url:
